Anyone Else Remember the Bat Boards April Fools Jokes?
I've been on this board since almost day one when David and Lee were running it-- it strikes me how far we've come. I admit I used to hate the juvenile April Fools Jokes that were posted every year-- usually announcing that the show was being released on VHS or that someone had gotten the license to do a diecast Batmobile!
Amazing all these years later-- we've seen so much released, we've had so much bounty that there is little left to joke about-- we've got Mego esque figures, Hot Toys, Wonderland Toys, Mattel, McFarlane, Cowls, Utility belts, Blu Ray and DVD, Streaming and Corgi Batmobiles! I know some of us are hoping for some things that haven't been done like the Ideal Batman, Robin and Joker figures (I think John would wish for those every year) and the Ideal Batman Helmet (I know I'd buy a case), I'd love to see the Topps Photo Cards or a hardcover book of the Norm Saunders Batman cards like they did with Star Trek and Planet of the Apes.
But I'm extremely greatful for all of the items we have gotten, and as usual I'm greatful for the real friendships I've made on this board.
Happy April (no fools) fellow Batfans!

I'd forgotten about those gags. It is amazing how many goodies have become available to us Batfans. No fooling!
Thanks for the reminder on all fronts, Andy.

Happy April everyone! I think I joined in 2006 right after buying a Wally cowl. Love the cottage industry vibe, and all the licensed goodies that came out of it. It’s great to reminisce with “strangers” that could be best buddies when we were growing up!
Some days you just can't get rid of a ... SHARK!

Lee who? Certainly not Lee Kirkham back then. He became a moderator when I did. I remember Glenn "Gdog" as Dave's right hand man.

Yep, spell check- Gee became Lee.
All due respect to both gentlemen, I miss having them around.

The oldest archive day saved at the waybackmachine
Feb. 16 2006
You can click on the forums and see the titles of the posts but unfortunately the replies were not archived. I'm amazed that all this was archived at all and saved all these years.
Couldnt find an April Fool's example but probably one is archived on one of the 388 saved dates from 2006-2024
(there is a Pennyworth listed but I was/am still "A. Pennyworth" and I am there in Feb '06)

It's still hard for me to look at any old thread with High C and still not feel a deep sense of personal loss since he was the one who got me to register here. It's unfortunately the reason why my participation has dropped off since his passing since he was basically the one Batfan I had the greatest level of simpatico with when it came to Bat stuff as he and I liked to get into the nuts and bolts of episode production and storytelling and neither of us were into merchandising and memorabilia that much (and the fact we lived in the same area and often hooked up)

High C is definitely missed around here, and so are you. Hang in there and I hope you consider chiming in more often if you feel up to it.

Here, here. There's a huge High C shaped hole in this community. I really empathize with you. It was a privilege to get to know J.P. better over the last few years of his life. Our friendship meant a lot to me, particularly during the bizarreness of 2020 and 2021.epaddon wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 10:03 am It's still hard for me to look at any old thread with High C and still not feel a deep sense of personal loss since he was the one who got me to register here.
