Batpoles

Post by cdub »

Batman just came on METV and the episode was " A RIDDLE A DAY KEEPS THE RIDDLER AWAY" (season one, episode 11). I just noticed for the first time, in all the years and many episodes I have watched, when they open the bookcase to reveal the batpoles, that Bruce's pole is larger than Dicks.

I wonder who made that decision? You would think that making them the same size would have been easier.

Just not funnier. Somehow, I could see Adam West suggesting it.

I just read something recently from a set decorator that said it was Adam's call and it cost quite a bit .

I seem to remember reading something a while back about it being some joke by the production crew.

And they go down into the batcave with the poles inverted.

To think that it was Burt Ward who talked about how big his pole was ...

The first thing I did with my McFarlane Batcave playset was to increase the girth of Batman's pole:

Customizing tip: The two Batpoles in the McFarlane Batcave playset are identical in size. (Strangely enough, the same error is in the MezcoToyz playset.) In the show, Dick’s Batpole is noticeably thinner than Bruce’s Batpole. So I taped together two paper drinking straws, removed the base, and slid it over Bruce’s one, then painted both poles gold.

The replica poles showed a visible difference at the 2018 exhibition at The Hollywood Museum in LA:

If by inverted, you mean they come down facing the opposite direction, they don't. The imagination sometimes plays tricks and I've read of many who believe this but they both arrive on the same side as they started up or down as you can see here. The camera perspective is from the same direction in the study and cave.

Indeed! I'm glad you reached this thread before I did, I imagine most of you are tired of me usually being the one hitting people over the head with this fact,

We probably need to coining a pithy name for this confusion/phenomena... "Bat-Pole Dysmorphia"?

They go down the poles facing away from us, but land facing us. I think that is what makes people think that they have turned around.

Some people have obviously never twistered their way down a fireman's pole! ;)
