Cott Batman soda can sold in Chicago in 1966?
After 4 years searching I found a 1966 Cott Batman soda can. I've always liked the design of it.
Was this Batman soda can ever sold in Chicago in 1966? Did it have a limited run of one year? I'm pretty sure my parents or one of my relatives would have bought me the Batman soda can for my birthday parties.
There's a 50-year difference between the Cott soda can and the Dr Pepper Ben Affleck Batman soda can. I think one of the big differences is printing technology as a 1960s would not have a photograph but line art. The Cott can is made of steel while the newer can is aluminum.
Did anyone ever try the Cott Batman soda? I'm guessing it tasted similar to RC cola as Cott owned RC.

I can’t tell you anything else about it, but I agree, that’s a great design can and it’s in great condition too. Congrats on the find!

Very interesting and great find.
I remembered seeing the paper label bottles when my dad collected soft drink and other bottles. I lived in Baltimore during college and Cott was a local brand, with billboards and signs boasting “it’s COTT to be good!”
Found a photo online of the Cott bottle, as well as one of the Cott advertising signs. Also a Dutch Batman soda.

Great find. That can is in amazing shape.
I grew up in New England and remember those supermarket displays and Batman cola in large-size (quart?) bottles.
I always thought of Cott as a local brand, so I'm surprised to see how extensive its distribution was. These days I gather their main business is packaging house-brand sodas for grocery chains.

I have the Dr. Pepper can, and its pretty sturdy, but yeah, no current material used for cans is as rock-hard as that made in the 50s and 60s.There's a 50-year difference between the Cott soda can and the Dr Pepper Ben Affleck Batman soda can. Nope. I'm not even sure it was a brand distributed in California (my home state).Did anyone ever try the Cott Batman soda? I'm guessing it tasted similar to RC cola as Cott owned RC.

Hi, do you remember what Cott Batman soda tasted like? Or what modern soda it was similar to?Jim Akin wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 8:42 am Great find. That can is in amazing shape.

Re: Cott Batman soda can sold in Chicago in 1966?
Cott regular cola reminded me of Royal Crown (RC) cola and I would guess Batman cola was just regular cola with a different label.
Re: Cott Batman soda can sold in Chicago in 1966?
It was the late 1970s, so maybe that’s why!
Re: Cott Batman soda can sold in Chicago in 1966?
I was incorrect that Cott bought RC in 1970. They bought RC in 2001. So Batman cola probably did taste like RC because they were trying to copy more famous brands.

It is an interesting story. I noticed an entry error. The entry calls Gerry Pencer “Gerry Cott.”
Re: Cott Batman soda can sold in Chicago in 1966?
I was told by someone who tried it that Cott Batman soda tasted like RC cola with a dash of pepper.
Also the Sam's choice soda sold in Walmart is made by Cott.
