Help! Scratched My Buckle!

Post by Hedji »

Well, stupid me. I put a big old scratch in my brass batman belt buckle on my CY belt.

Is there anything that can be done, or should I just plan on replacing it?

If it's not too deep, it may be able to get buffed out but you have to be careful not to buff out the art.

If it's deep and going through the art then it's pretty much a goner.

Sorry to hear, Hedji! :(

While we are on the topic of CY buckles... what is the best way to polish it?

If it's not sealed, Brasso is the best brass polish for tarnishing.
If it's just smudged, my brass guy uses Pledge furniture polish and swears by it.

I don't know how deep the bat art goes so you should check with Clint to be sure whatever you use won't damage it.

Is there a compound or polish you'd recommend?

Since I don't know the details of how the bat is applied or how deep the scratch is, I don't want to steer you wrong with bad info...

I'd ask Clint what's the best way to handle it.

If you have a local metal polisher, maybe run it by them to see if they can save it.
Real metal workers can do amazing things!!

Sorry I can't be more help!

Thanks, Chuck! I'll mess around with it and see what I can do.
