I use to buy stuff from Rex also. Always dark, bad contrast and now we have DVDs and Blu-Rays all restored and nice. Rex and guys like him, Toy Shop, those were are go too's before eBay and of course the comic Con's. What a change.

Rex and those phone calls, oh my gosh!
He had that smoker's voice that sounded like it came from the bottom of a well. And he would always want to talk to both me and my wife.
I know he became a fairly successful novelist.
I had this image of him sitting at a desk surrounded by stacks of old magazines, pounding on a typewriter while making a dupe VHS tape, ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts, his face obscured by smoke.
At the same time he was on the phone trying to sell some $5 item for $500 (best example extant!!!)
He was the only person i ever knew that used the word "extant".

Hallmark store was in the process of moving and had an after Christmas sale. Got both of these for under $24 total. Dug around to find the Joker. Last one they had.
