New SDCC Batman Exclusive

A friend of mine sent me a picture of this new Batman exclusive coming to the San Diego Comic Con this summer. I’ve never heard of this company Trilljoy but this style Batman looks like a POP with more almond eyes. I will have to check it out while I am there.

As big of a fan of 1966 Batman as I am, I have what I call
“0 Kelvin” (absolute zero) interest in these types of cartoonish figures. They just seem like unnecessary chunks of plastic/wastes of perfectly good fossil fuels.

Would have preferred to see the plastic used to make more good figures, prop replicas or accessories for the better figures, etc.

I'm with Biff- not into the cartoon-ized characters but that means one less item i have to chase down-- for those of you who are into these things bully for you! It looks well done and the chase figures are great choices.

I have to agree with Biff and Andy. I look at the Batmania toys and collectibles of my youth in the '60s and think WOW! I look at the things they offer today, (Sorry i have include the Mcfarlane figs) and wonder if we are so gullible and nostalgia hungry that they can slap together anything '60s looking and we will cheer and buy it happily, while they continue to make money off us. Only time and history can tell, Junk or Valuable collectible.

The cartoony representation of characters is mostly a modern thing-- sure there are the Soakies from the 60s (personal favorites) but even they skirt the line a bit. I'm also with you that I'm in the minority that the McFarlane, Funko and Five Points figures all leave me cold.

Re: Mezco Five Points figures.

Mezco makes “ALMOST” stuff, in my opinion.

They will make great 6 inch Star Trek figures, but not finish the set of the primary characters (no McCoy or Scotty, etc.);

They make what could have been an awesome 1/18 scale 1966 Batmobile but not add the details/paint to finish it that even inexpensive vehicles have (Funko, JADA);

For 1/18 scale figures, the “5 points” are pretty good likenesses but … FIVE POINTS of articulation? Why? Even Funko had articulated elbows and knees. They can’t even sit in the “Almostmobile”!

No time or historical hindsight needed necessarily, contrary to the overarching themes in the responses in this thread, believe it or not there are people who actually take pleasure in new items in real time. Different strokes for different (and often less vocal) folks.

In fairness to us, Andy, Funko did bury a giant pit full of POP figures, which had the effect of manipulating supply and impacting demand/value, when they went unsold.

Again I agree with Andy. I meant no judgement or to cast any dispersion's on what someone loves to collect. I knew Jim Hambrick and Danny Fuchs. Jim would collect anything with a "S" on it, I thought it a little to much but respected that he loved it and wanted it a part of his collection. Danny was infatuated with the 1939 Ideal wood jointed Superman figure, at one time he had 15 in his collection. So for sure collect what you love and love what you collect. I myself collect items from the 1940's to about 1975, anything contemporary, unless it strikes a cord I pass on. Just my thing, I don't buy or read the new comics,I lost interest after Doomsday, and Bane came along, I don't enjoy the stories or the art. To each their own.
As for my comment about histories judgement, remember Cabbage Patch Kids and Bennie Babies. Love what you collect, it's priceless to you. I do not trade or sell anything from my collection, unless I've traded up and have a duplicate. Histories judgment may not think so, my mother loved Beanie Babies,some at the time went for over $300.00, today you get most for a song. And what I'm saying is when you are gone will Auction houses be clamoring and fighting to sell your collection or will it be a garage sale, history decides that no matter how priceless it was to you.
as for being (Less Vocal), their is a lot of talk about lurkers. Yes, i read the board post daily without commenting daily. but then I only speak when i have something to say. nuff Said.

I quit buying comics off the stand after the Giant-size X-Men #1 introduced the “new” X-Men. I hated it and it killed off my interest in buying comic books from the “Hey kids! Comics” rotating rack at the local drugstore or the Convenient Food Mart store rack. To me, it ruined what I considered to be the attraction of the X-Men: yes, they had superpowers, but they still possessed relatable elements of human vulnerability (more so than the new version of X-Men).

Again, only my dinosaur opinions. Not disparaging anyone else’s interests.

Thankfully, i've never been attracted to any IP just slapped on a product for the bait-in-the-water reasons from companies, so kiddie-ized versions of '66 characters is an instant thumbs-down. Moreover, thinking back to when I was a kid, even then, such kiddie-ized versions would be passed up, since the idea was that a toy would be more appealing if it resembled the source as much as manufacturing of the day allowed, not attempting to kiddie-ize a show that was not taken to that extreme.
