Star Cars Batmobile in Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Post by BiffPow »

This is our second time visiting Star Cars in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I’ve mentioned it before, but if you haven’t been in person, it’s a fun museum featuring cars used in movies and television, and some vehicles that were personally owned by celebrities, like Elvis, Dolly Parton and The Beach Boys, etc.

BONUS: you can actually sit in several of the vehicles and have your photo made for $20! That includes their original 1966 Batmobile, signed by George Barris.

(I know the Bat-equipment displayed alongside it isn’t original to the show, but it looked good next to the Batmobile. I’m guessing Bruce Wayne would have included an “all in one” crime fighting tool like that, if the technology had been available!) 😉

They also have a movie Batmobile, a James Bond BMW, one of the Andy Griffith police cars (signed on the dash by Don Knotts), a Beverly Hillbillies vehicle, a Ghostbusters ambulance, a “BTTF” DeLorean and so many more!

Well worth the trip! If you’ve not been to that area (Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville) before, there is just so much to do that you will never get bored. There’s also beautiful mountains and scenic nature - and the Biltmore mansion isn’t far away (just another hour and a half to two hours, in North Carolina. And, if you’re going to North Carolina, you may also want to visit Mount Airy, Andy Griffith’s hometown and the basis for the town of Mayberry. There is a very nice museum and some recreations to visit.)

Be sure to check out the retro Sunliner diner, as well! Some of the best diner food and incredibly fun atmosphere! We had such a good time on this trip!

You are welcome. Here are a few more.

The museum is fun, and there is also enough to do in that area to take you a month to see everything you’d like to.

I’m fortunate to live within driving distance of BOTH Star Cars AND Fiberglass Freaks’ 1966 Batman museum.

👍🏻 Indeed!

That entire area is like an amusement park for adults. Museums (Titanic, “Alcatraz East” Museum of Crime - made to look like a prison, etc.), a HUGE aquarium, sky lifts, a shopping/restaurant/entertainment village on top of a mountain, sideshow types of businesses (Ripley’s, Haunted House, house of mirrors, etc.), restaurants of absolutely every kind. Beautiful hotels (there’s even the WAYBACK motel, which is retro-outfitted like you might’ve seen in the 1960s).

Then, of course, the great Smoky Mountains National Park, camping, cabin getaways, Dolly Parton‘s Dollywood … it’s like being a kid again. There’s a “five and dime” store with vintage fixtures and signs (they even sell an Adam West Batman life-size standee), and the original Smoky Mountains saltwater taffy shop is still there (exactly where it was when I was little).

Kitschy, touristy and naturally beautiful- and the perfect spot to let out the inner child from our older selves.
