Riddle Me This # 3
Two riddles to start the weekend out right . . .
Riddle me this . . .
What vowel is the loudest?
When I stand still, I cause a noise
When I move, I cause no noise
What am I?
Quickly, quickly, quickly . . . the square citizens of Gotham City will be immeasurably poorer very soon if all you would-be Batmen and Robins don't deduce the correct answers! The Riddler

1. U, as in ewe, a female sheep.
2. Traffic. When it stands still, drivers blow their horns.
The only possible meaning: both clues, taken together, point to the nursery rhyme, "Little Boy Blue, come blow your horn. The sheep's in the meadow; the cow's in the corn." Clearly, the Riddler plans to steal the priceless painting of "The Blue Boy," currently on loan to the Gotham Museum of Art.

Wrong -- on both counts!!!!!LittleLouisGroovy wrote:1. U, as in ewe, a female sheep.

The answer to the first riddle may be the vowel 'U'. But your answer doesn't explain why 'U' would be the loudest vowel.
The answer to the second riddle is incorrect because drivers still blow their horns during moving traffic and "cause a noise".
Keep trying! The Riddler

These are both quite challenging. Still got the ole thinkin' cap on though.

Is the first 1 'i' - because its on ways in the midst of 'noise'?
The second one - 'i' ain't got a clue.
The second one - 'i' ain't got a clue.
Re: Riddle Me This # 3
That reasoning could apply to "u" as well. Middle of sound.
I think even the Robin would be tripped up with these riddles.
I wonder if the caped crusader would ever ask for a hint.

An 'A' for effort -- but no!!!!!NuRF wrote:Is the first 1 'i' - because its on ways in the midst of 'noise'?
'i" may be in the middle of noise but being in the middle doesn't mean 'i' is louder than 'o' or 'e'.
Clever . . .The second one - 'i' ain't got a clue.
Only another hour or so before I reveal the solutions. My triumph is almost at hand. By outwitting all of you Batmen and Robins, I'll have achieved the underworld equivalent of reaching the top of Mount Everest!!!!! The Riddler

Re: Riddle Me This # 3
And the answers are . . .
Riddle: "What vowel is the loudest?"
Solution: The letter 'O,' of course, because all the rest are inaudible (in AUdIblE -- get it???)
Riddle: "When I stand still, I cause a noise
When I move, I cause no noise
What am I?"
Solution: A cradle. When a cradle is still, it "causes" a noise because it fails to keep a baby from crying. When a cradle moves, it "causes" no noise because the baby is content and stops crying.
Better luck next time, Dynamic Dimwits!

Unless the cradle is empty, at which point it would be still but not causing a noise.Edward Nigma wrote: Solution: A cradle. Ah, but the beauty of the original riddle stems from its mirroring internal contradictions (motion/silence, stillness/sound). Your riddle:LittleLouisGroovy wrote: Unless the cradle is empty, at which point it would be still but not causing a noise.
When I stand still, I cause a noise
When I stand still, I cause no noise
What am I?
is interesting but lacks that internal elegance. And I am nothing if not Batman's most elegant foe! The Riddler
