Best Series " Stunt"

Post by rsaffle »

I was watching S101 E7 Instant Freeze and saw the police officer lay his bike down when Mr Freeze froze the ice.

Made me wonder what the best stunt was in the entire series? Anybody have an opinion or want to share a cool stunt with us?

I always thought the Batman rope swings were pretty good-- in the Pilot when he swoops up to the Atomic Pile-- in the first Catwoman episode when he swings over the tiger pit-- and I think there are a few other instances including the first Joker episode when he swoops up to the catwalk.

When Batman throws the batarang and catches the Riddler in the pilot I think they filmed it backwards but it was a neat effect. The Batmobile blowing up and turning into whatever it's turned into in the False face episode-- is that a stunt? I would think it qualifies.

Great question Randy.

I'm in agreement with all the ones Andy mentioned. I would also add from the first Joker appearance when Batman and Robin swoop down on Bat-ropes to grab Joker after his Pagliacci song. That was pure 'straight outta the comics' stuff.

I was always impressed with all the rope work-- they pulled it off really well, and I think that was completely missing from later seasons?

I agree with Andy -- the first instance I thought of was the rope-swing to the giant umbrella handle in Fine Feathered Finks -- followed by what may have been the only bat-climb that didn't use the standard side-of-the-building set.

Other stunts I like:

Blaze's jump from Commissioner Gordon's window.

Pengy escaping from Joker's cherry picker by hooking his umbrella to a street banner.

Ma Parker's rocket-powered wheelchair crashing into the nursing home wall.

Dishonorable mention: "Commissioner Gordon" plummeting from the Amerigo Columbus Bridge. :)

Bruce Wayne strapped to a gurney hurtling down the street towards a cliff?
Anyone?

Well, it was one of the few cliffhangers that had me sweating the 24-hour wait for a resolution. That and Robin getting eaten by that giant clam! :-)

I second the vote for the "giant umbrella" climb. And if we're counting the movie, Bruce does an impressive dive off that warfside rooftop into the water.

"Or worse."

Blaze's jump from Commissioner Gordon's window.
Arguably the best stunt in the series. Perfectly executed.

The next would be what appeared to be the wire-controlled Batman swing to save Robin from the plank set over the tiger pit (then immediately jump into action).

Burt Ward recently recounted how he and Adam had to make a one-off bat pole jump from a high catwalk to grab and slide down about 80 feet (they had to alternate gripping and releasing to keep from burning the gloves and boots), which they executed for the movie. I think he was quoted as saying that was, in his opinion, the most dangerous stunt because if they missed the pole or slipped, it was an 80 foot drop to a concrete floor.

In "Instant Freeze", Adam as Batman snuffs out the curtain fire with a throw rug. It is him, not a stuntman and not sure how flammable that cape was but it easily could have caught fire looking at the scene again!
