Emerald City ComicCon
Hi there, I'm a long time member of this board and a first time poster here. I was wondering if anyone was planning to attend the up coming Emerald City ComicCon in March. I'm planning to go and I'm feeling a little excited because it will be my first con and also maybe a little nervous because I want to go in my '66 Btsuit. It will be the first time I've worn it out in public and I was hoping for some good advice for first timers and maybe some dos and don'ts. Im looking forward to seeing all the other cosplays as well!
Re: Emerald City ComicCon
I’m sure you’ll get some valuable input from cosplaying members here.
No need to be nervous as you’re rocking the look. Well done! Be sure to post photographs from your “adventures” at the Gotham - errr - Emerald City ComicCon!
Re: Emerald City ComicCon
Thanks, Biff! I offer my humble gratitude for your kind words!
It's a little daunting a) because I've never been to a con and b) because I don't have a Robin for moral support. I'm hoping my buddy can make it out to go with me but we'll see. I hope to get some good pics while there, for sure. It would be cool to be able to meet some people who are also going on here.

Not a cosplayer myself but I am a veteran of well over 500 conventions-- Emerald City is part of ReedPop which runs many of the bigger shows in the country-- I know they advertise cosplay workshops for new cosplayers. Check the site to see if there are any cosplay guidelines. There's usually a different check in for folks in costume to make sure you are following all weapons guidelines. If I were you I'd figure out a way to make one pouch in the belt be able to hold cash so you can buy food and water.
One thing about Cosplay-- from the non-cosplayer side of things-- be aware of the dealers and artists who are set up trying to make some money-- don't block their tables - especially dealers they paid a lot for that spot.
I'm sure you'll get better advice from people who suit up-- you look great in the costume so I think you'll have a good time. There are a couple other Adam West cosplayers in the Pacific Northwest so you might run into some chums.

Thanks for the tips! And thank you for the compliment. I honestly feel great wearing it but to be honest, I'm struggling to get over my self consciousness. There isn't much left to the imagination in that suit! Lol

Re: Emerald City ComicCon
What a great first-post and a great looking suit! You wear it very well, Sir! Can't wait to hear about your first con-experience!
As far as tips...
1) Have fun! First and foremost, being in costume is about having a great time.
2) Stay hydrated! Its really easy to get caught up in all of the hijinks, but make sure you don't end the day like I did the first time, with a cracking headache.
3) The cape on the '66 Bat-Suit is a great way to conceal your Convention badge and lanyard so it is visible in photographs and spoil your incredibly well put together suit, all whilst keeping it handy for moments when you need to show it. Myself and others have usually wrapped the lanyard around the belt in such a way that the badge doesn't hang too low, but still has enough length to reach it and show it.
4) This is more of a suggestion, but hear me out... When you're out there on the convention floor, try and think about the version and spirit of the character that you're representing and the way that Adam's '66 Batman would interact with the public on the show, especially kids. It can be a genuinely special experience for kids and grownups alike meeting "their" Batman, in real life. I've always tried to keep that in mind.

That’s EXCELLENT advice, not just for the benefit of all of the fans who will love to see a Batman in character, but also for yourself. You are less likely to be self-conscious if you are channeling THE Batman.
I showed up in costume to a one-night only 50th anniversary showing of the Batman movie at our local Movie Tavern. I did my best Adam West impersonation with a “Greetings, good citizens of Gotham!” it was as though I was someone else - the TV show Batman.
The audience was enjoying seeing their heroes sitting in the seats with them (along with my Catwoman wife and Robin son), kids (and a few adults - although, in fairness the guys were probably looking at Catwoman) turning around with happy smiles on their faces and exchanging waves.
Whatever trepidations I may have had, they disappeared with the first sentence uttered, with conviction, as Batman.
Re: Emerald City ComicCon
Wow! Thanks for all that well laid out advice! I will definitely take it to heart. I really can't wait to check it all out!

Bemor 32 that photo is awesome! You'll do great at the 'con. Actually, you could be a double for Adam as you look so much like him and that's not easy to pull off.
"Hmmm... I don't like the twist this joke is taking. Let us away! Let us away!"
Re: Emerald City ComicCon
Now that's some high praise right there! I think I need to work on my suave demeanor, and maybe brush up on my Batusi skills before I deserve such compliments. He was certainly one of a kind and for me, he's the only Batman.Yellow Oval wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 9:02 am Bemor 32 that photo is awesome! You'll do great at the 'con. Welcome to the forum board! I have never worn a costume to a con but honestly, you will have a mask on, so that should make it much easier. Like Ben said earlier, you are Batman at the Convention and people will enjoy seeing you and taking pics with you, so have fun with it.
Remember, always be yourself, unless you can be Batman. Then always be Batman!
