How Many of Us Were Influenced by the Barris Batmobile...

Well, this was the year I took my beloved convertible out of winter storage and on the same day drove it over to my local dealership and upgraded by 20 years to a brand new one. I only had two choices in terms of color-- steel gray and black. Mrs Fish took one look and said "black, no brainer."

Because my best friend knows my love of the Batman character he took one look and said "bought another Batmobile huh?" -- which gave me pause-- my FIRST ever brand new car was a very racy looking Ford EXP-- which was really just a souped up Escort-- but it was sharp looking-- it had pointed headlights, was black and had red pinstriping. THAT was clearly influenced by the Batmobile. But since then I can say with certainty no other car I've owned has been Batmobile-Barris style. The "sports" cars I've owned have been gold, gold and silver. Now this one. The black is sleek, and it's got that amazing new car smell that only a car with 14 miles on the odometer can have-- but Batman did not play a part in my choice, in fact, your honor, I think I would have chosen the gray one-- but Mrs Fish was such a fan of the black I went along-- but I'll always be guilty of being influenced by Batman at least in the eyes of my friends.

But it leads to the question-- how many of you DO choose a vehicle that might have fit in with the other cars in that cave? And do any of you share the burden that no matter what you do friends and family see it through the prism of your love of Batman?

I did have a 1965 black Barracuda with red interior. I wasn’t influenced to buy it because my dad had actually gone to pick up a Volvo P1800 for me, but it had sold the day before, so he brought back the Barracuda. Still, I did like that car.🤔

Miata to Miata? I had an early '90 built in the second week of April '89. Had it for 31 years before upgrading, but not black, Sebring Orange!
Blipshift had a great Miata Batmobile tribute

I do love to see the pinstriping and other things people do to evoke the '66 Batmobile (even a Ferrari Hybrid, Black with red trim).

Of course, some did graft a 66 front end to an NA Miata

If I had a black Corvette, the wheel caps would be painted as a red bat with white trip. The Vette "wings" lend themselves to that upgrade.

I always wanted a Monte Carlo SS for obvious reasons but never got one,

went with an Eldorado next, which was a good compromise (hey who's that driving my car?)

and then to a Dodge Charger which looked more like the Black Beauty (not mine but same make model and color)

My parents owned a black ‘74 Monte Carlo with red pinstripes. Never really thought of it as a Batmobile - really more as a boat.

Most of my cars over my lifetime have been black and all have been referred to as The Batmobile, by myself and others, due to the Barris masterpiece. My most recent ride has come the closest to living up to the name. (I also used to drive a Miata- tons of fun, 2nd favorite car I ever owned)
