I bought myself an early birthday present to myself. It arrived at my doorstep today...

The Ideal Batman cowl is now part of my growing Batman collection.

My first cowl, with my sister, circa 1977. It would eventually be worn, torn and lost to time.

It still fits!

My parents never could find one when I was a child, although it was on my Christmas Wish list. I never saw it out at any of the department stores, and we went to look everywhere it was rumored by my classmates to be (even Zayer’s, if anyone remembers that department store).

The first time I actually saw one in person, I was already in college. We were way out in the country and my dad stopped to talk to someone he knew. That guy had grandchildren playing in the yard, and I spotted an ideal Batman helmet just laying there in the yard, scratched, nicked, paint worn off from play and exposure to the elements. Even beat up and worn, it looked spectacular to me. Never wound up owning one, though.

Thanks. This one is in pretty good shape. I had though about repainting the black cowl face and the bat symbol, but upon receiving it I decided to leave as is. There were cheaper helmets on eBay but in not as good condition as this one, and this seller emphasized that this was in a non-smoking environment.

Bought the 1939 Red Convertible. They just put them on the rack at Meijer. employees kept some for themselves. $5.99. Just need the mid 50’s version to complete the 1/64 collection. JL has the comic book 40’s and post 66 Batmobile versions as kits.

A couple of acquisitions from yesterday's visit to the St. Tammy's Collectors Convention in Mandeville, LA. An original limited collector's treasury edition of the Ras Al Ghul saga - like the one I had when I was 9 but was lost to time. And a '66 vintage Pepsi drinking glass.

Love these early big logo Detective Comics. Working on two others right now.

Picked up a few early Batman's too. Golden Age Comics are the bestest Comics IMO.

The original Ideal mold to the Batman helmet is at a Mexican toy factory and they've sold recent licensed versions of it. The only difference is that they painted eyebrows on the helmet and it has a different copyright.

Yep, remember the post well.
While I certainly have faith in the concept, I'm skeptical because we haven't seen any show up in any US markets unlike other Mexican toys-- even bootlegs.

You’ve got quite a great comic book collection, Lou! Fascinating to see such a great collection these days.

I used to contribute to Overstreet’s price guide way back when. I had a lot of key golden age and silver age books. I identified content (artists, stories, etc.) that made it into the price guide. Sold most of my collection except for a few random books and the comics I bought off the newsstand as a kid.
