Batgirl emblem & Robin's tunic
Hi guys,
I've been reading these forums for a while. I'm finally fulfilling my dream of dressing like Batgirl for Halloween. My husband is going as Batman & my daughter (3 1/2) is going as Robin, the Boy Wonder (she has the fist into palm "Holy POLY, Batman!" down pat).
1) Does anyone have a good vector downloadable Batgirl emblem? I got the Grand Heritage Batgirl costume, and it's pretty awesome. But the emblem looks too small, crooked, & funny. I'm thinking about re-doing it. I found the Robin emblem on this forum a while ago and downloaded it, but now I can't remember where I got it.
2) Robin's tunic. Oh man. I have almost all of the other elements of Robin's costume cobbled together... but the tunic! My daughter's Robin costume has to be made from scratch, as there are no good ones for toddlers. I am NOT crafty at ALL. Any thoughts? My current plan is to buy a red tank top, cut the bottom to look like Robin's, and... hem it I guess? Get someone to hem it? Then put grommets into it and string yellow shoelaces through them.
I'm worried that the red fabric will be too thin, but there's no way I can make one from scratch.
Curious as to your thoughts!
If anyone is interested in how I'm making the rest of the Robin costume (and, again, I'm not crafty. And I'm trying really hard not to get too bogged down in how authentic the costume is), here it is:
Red Tunic:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008FA ... UTF8&psc=1
Mask (not wild about this one):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CI1 ... UTF8&psc=1
Cape (doesn't have the same collar, but trying to let that go):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007UT ... UTF8&psc=1
Green sleeves & bottom:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005JJ ... UTF8&psc=1
Belt (going to get some gold hair clips and clip them along the belt to simulate the capsules):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CC ... UTF8&psc=1
Tights:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009HP ... UTF8&psc=1
Going to cut the emblem out of felt or something and... stick it on somehow.
NO idea what to do about the gloves &/or shoes. I'll either find some regular green gloves or she'll just have to go gloveless. I'm kind of thinking about getting some green socks and just slipping them over her shoes to simulate Robin's green elf boots. Unless I find something between now & Halloween.

Re: Batgirl emblem & Robin's tunic
I have a suggestion regarding the Robin tunic. If you aren't too concerned about total authenticity in look, you could always get either a red T-shirt or red button down shirt of some kind, remove the sleeve parts and replace them with the short sleeves of a green T-shirt or just put it over that leotard you link to so you get a 2-tone effect. Then you could always do an iron-on transfer (DARK fabric kind) of the R logo or print it out and put it on a foam backing with costume adhesive to stick. Here's the link to the R logo & other stuff like a Robin mask template you can make out of felt:
http://www.66batman.com/bat_resources/r ... main.shtml
If you are computer savvy, using Microsoft Word and the basic shapes option and text boxes, you could make a lace template that you could also iron-on using iron-on transfers (also for dark fabric.) I'm uploading a sample lace here that hopefully you can use - Robin had 12 of them (if you can get them all to fit!) FYI - you won't be able to do iron-on with that red polyester shirt you linked to on Amazon. It needs to be either all cotton or a cotton/polyester blend.
As for the Batgirl costume emblem, I'm uploading a file of a photo of the original emblem that I recently re-mastered, color fixing the yellow portion for consistency. I"m not sure what size it will print out for you but you should be able to adjust the size on your computer. Don't iron-on to the Batgirl suit - pretty sure it is made out of polyester and you'll damage the costume. Would suggest printing it out on label / flexible adhesive paper and see how well it sticks to the suit. The larger you make it and the more you move around will undoubtedly affect it's staying power. The wing tips are the most vulnerable parts for separating.
You could always mount it on thin foam or cut it out of felt and then sew it on (like the GH Batman logo is affixed.) If you decide to use felt, you'll have to figure out the border if you want greater authenticity but I don't think it would be that noticeable if it is just all yellow with no border. What counts most is the shape of it.
Looking forward to pictures!

Also, I don't recommend that mask for a toddler. It won't fit and if cut or tightened too much to stay in place will have sharp edges/might otherwise be uncomfortable.
You can likely find a cheap cloth one in a costume shop or on-line.

Re: Batgirl emblem & Robin's tunic
Thanks guys! I really appreciate it! I'm actually having a friend, who makes costumes for people, do the emblem stuff for me (and probably the tunic). He's going to cut it out & apply it. I think he's going to use something called "Wunder" but I'll let him know about the ironing. THANK YOU!
The Batgirl emblem you attached is about 3" x 4" - do you know if that's the correct size of her original emblem?
Bret, my daughter generally takes a 4t, and I think a small is a size 6... so it would be waaaay too big. Thanks, though!
It's funny, my daughter had found the Robin mask and was casually wearing it while playing on her Leappad when I woke up this morning. It fits her, but takes up half her face, so I am going to try to find something that looks a bit better.
She has also informed me that I am only to refer to her as "Robin - The Boy Wonder" from now on. HAH!

Re: Batgirl emblem & Robin's tunic
Looking at photos, I'd say that's about the size of it. Others here may know specifically. I recommend printing one on paper and laying it across the area to see how it looks. There's nothing on this in the Bat-resources section but perhaps this could be the beginnings of adding a section for Batgirl?
Did a search on "Wunder" but couldn't find anything - would be interested in knowing more about it.
Best of luck with the mask - maybe your friend could make one out of felt for you. Give my regards to Robin for me!
