After I completed my Bat suit to wear for Halloween and a few shows, I bought my 10 year old son an off the shelf robin costume so we can suit up together. Eventually I had planned on making him an accurate ’66 Robin outfit. We are heading to Philly Comic Con in a few weeks and he really want to dress up. So over the past week I started the process. Since he is 10 there are really no patterns his size, I drew some up myself using similar clothing items as a guide. So far I made the cape and the vest and they came out fairly well. I do not consider myself a tailor but I know the basics of using a sewing machine. The vest was a lot of trial and error and I had him try it on through every stage making adjustments as I went along. Must have been 10 times and he only got stuck with a pin once. I’m using two layers of a mid- weight polyester fabric. The most nerve wracking part was putting in the holes for the eyelets. After all the work of finishing it, it could all be ruined in this step. I actually used a soldering iron to burn the correct size holes for the eyelets. The polyester melts so it worked out well. For the belt buckle I scaled down some pix and built it out of a raw piece of brass. It is not functioning, just attached to the front and fastens in the back with a nylon buckle.
What have people used for the tubes on the belt ? I can’t tell if they are hollow or solid. I bought some K&S brass rod from a hobby shop and planned on filling with a dowel, and painting the tips.

I finished up my son's Robin suit and it came out ok. Attached are some final pix of the vest, belt, mask and shoes. For the shoes, I used spray adhesive to stretch green T- shirt material of some slip on sneakers. I made the wings out of some styrene and covered those the same way. I then hot glued the wings to the sides of the shoes. For some reason they were the most satisfying aspect of the build. I had no idea if it would work, it did just as I had planned, and it did not take much time at all.
