Yeah the prices are right for this I paid $50.00 for each season of Star Trek total $150.00 and I got mine at Wal-Mart after it was out for a while. I knew the price would be high but its going to be well worth it to have it all uncut and with extras!!! :) :) we got what 4 months to save you can do it I know I will be getting both!!! Happy Batman Days!!!! :) :)

There may be a standard Blu Ray also being released without all the extra's - we'll see next week.

For reference, The blu ray star trek that used to sell for the pricing mentioned above was repackaged into a simpler paper box with simple sleeves and all three seasons were offered as one packaged. Amazon had a one day sale - $50 or so for all three seasons. It is currently under $90.

First, congrats Ralph. You will do a great job. Second, I can't believe what I'm reading here. Comparing the price of Batman to other sets? Like Andy mentioned, all the legal things that had to be gone through, and there's the fact that we're talking Batman here. I mean, are you guys seriously comparing Batman to the Beverly Hillbillies? All I can say is Holy apples and oranges!

Now, lets see those bonus features! Also, I'm curious if the 20th Century Fox logo will remain at the end of the episodes. I'm hoping for an isolated music option like on the Blu Ray movie.

Remember Star Trek has had NUMEROUS releases on home video over the past 30 years, sometimes costing in the $1,000's [laserdisc, the Columbia 2 episode tapes] so it only makes sense to price Star Trek to sell when it hit BD. Even single ep. tapes were 12-15 each back in the 90s.

Im sure Batman BD will level out at 120 and then maybe 100 after Xmas, DVD version will probably hit 90 or so. Very fair price for 120 episodes and bonus content.

chelray1 wrote:its a shame that a fan of the show for 40+ years cant afford this. Why not give fans an affordable price? Lets look at say the Beverley Hillbillies. When they came out on DVD, the full list price was 29.99 on amazon. VERY reasonable. Now you can get them for like $7.50 new. Again Very reasonable. I hate that studios increase prices just because its Batman. .
What you're describing is not reasonable at all. First off, you're talking about one season of Beverly Hillbillies and approximate one-fourth to one-third the number of episodes compared to a packaged three season release with extra bonus content etc. And there is not a SINGLE TV release where you can get it for $7.50 when it first comes out. Now if you want to wait in the forlorn hope that a title is going to be massively unpopular and end up on the remainder bin somewhere, by all means go ahead, but the idea that the company releasing this should follow an unprofitable business model that doesn't pay for the cost of producing the set is the thing that strikes me as unreasonable.

Let's instead compare the price of the discounted Blu-Ray set at Amazon to another model. It comes out to $63 per season. By contrast, CBS/Paramount is continuing to release "Gunsmoke" in half season sets of $40 EACH, which means $80 per season meaning that buying three seasons of "Gunsmoke" would basically cost me more than the Blu-Ray set is going to cost. So there is nothing wrong with the price model for a new release. Of course you're liable to find it cheaper when used months later, but that's for the same reason why a used car is cheaper than a new car. Is it therefore "unreasonable" for a new car to cost more than a used one?

I respect the fact that some people might have to wait for budgetary reasons, but expecting to get something for nothing is carrying that argument too far IMO.
Thank you for writing exactly what I was thinking. It's amazing to me that a fan of 40 years is willing to support bootleggers as opposed to purchasing a set that is fully authorized by those involved in its creation. Sure it's costly; so save from now until November...but please spare us the lectures on why it isn't worth it. To me and many others it is.

I can add the Blu Ray set to the Christmas list for $189 but $270 is really pushing it. I can understand holding out for a deal. However I'm getting the set for Christmas if I have to purchase it and put it under the tree from: Bat Lugosi - to: Bat Lugosi. The wife is cool with $189, I don't know, worst case scenario I get the DVD instead.

Dear fellow bat fans,

The only remaining concerns on my part are as follows:

1. Will the "next week" teasers from Winter '66-Spring '67 be intact? It would be good to see them.

2. The in color" bumpers would be cool, but aren't a necceasity.

3. Not trying to sound rude, but zero changes to content. If the release needs to be delayed to ensure a 100% COMPLETE product, I can handle that! Just DON'T make us think we're getting an intact product and then find out there's any sort of "adjustment." AFTER we spend our HARD-earned money. As you'll recall, Mr. Lucus learned what happens when you ASSUME the fan base will accept changes to the ORIGINAL product. Take NEW Coke, please! (Boom, boom, ching!)

4. Last but CERTAINLY not least, TONS of extras! Thank you for your time...

The price is about what I expected it to be; either way I'll wait for the reviews before I buy it, then decide whether to grab it right away or wait for a deal. (I've waited this long already, so...)
Thing is, I do like to watch DVDs on the computer, and I need to replace the DVD drive in my computer anyway, so I guess blu-ray is out for now.

Im just excited to purchase a legitimate set that contains all three seasons. I have waited over 40 years for it, I am sure it will be great. I love Blu Ray, not worried about all the what if's.

I'm certainly glad the series will be available but I'm disappointed with the cover art. I hate to bring up the same old topic but I still haven't seen anything definitive from WB to say if the shows will be altered or not. I'd like to pre-order but don't want the hassle of returning an inferior product.

At this point, fans with many concerns have a couple of choices:

1. If you find out the episodes are not complete, exercise your power as a consumer and do not buy the set. Ultimately, you will live just as well without it--just as you have all of your life.

2. If you feel the first (and only) digital version of the series is too rare to pass up--so you can live with the edits (if that turns out to be the case) then by all means, buy the set, but please--remember that you knew what you were facing.

Like 99% of any merchandise based on the '66 series, the DVD could be a product that will have limited life on the shelves, as the generations most interested in the series is older (ex. Baby Boomers and Generation X), so its not like this will be packaged in different versions a decade later for younger consumers raised on Burton-Nolan Batman--the case of more modern productions. Yes, the series is "Batman," but the dominant image of the character is not Dozier's version, and that is not the image pushed in the main line of comics or films. With that in mind, you will have to ask yourself if you fall in the side of choices 1 or 2, and--with hope--you can be satisfied with that choice.

well I could really care less about what the price is going to be, fact is, Ive got a price point of $29.99 New for each season on DVD. If I cant get it for that, then Ill be happy to watch my TV Canada Bootlegs a little longer..

Based on other series, I believe the price will drop to this and maybe even lower than that within 6-8 months. Just be patient..thats all...

Six Million Dollar Man is a perfect example of this. 250 bucks on release date for the complete series or 50 bucks per season, now 14.99 or lower per season.

I threw away my bootleg copies today. The prints were terrible and I never watched the whole set because of the poor quality of the thing. I am so looking forward to the Blu-ray release.

That isn't a perfect example. First off, they didn't release all five seasons separately a few months later it was spread out over a period of a couple YEARS. The same thing with "Barney Miller" which had its full run released by Shout but in more than two years since has only released a couple additional seasons and not all of them separately. And then there's "It Takes A Thief" which had a full series release but then only its first season later made available separately.

You're entitled to your own standards of what you'll spend but you're not entitled to your own facts regarding how the market works or what's happened in the past with other titles. The past model shows that usually you have to wait more than a couple years to then see the whole thing made available individually (and often minus the bonus content).

Long time lurker here (thought it was time I finally registered)!

I wonder how many sets this edition will be limited to? I see that amazon canada are listing the blu rays as the NUMBER 1 best seller for ALL DVDs

http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?u ... dition)%20

and it has only been up for 1 day.

Seems there is still a lot of love for this series out there.
