Holy close call! Hopefully it stays in the hands of someone who has a sense of cultural history this car represents. I think that much of the extra signage, etc. should be kept though - perhaps assembled as a display to highlight things Barris did to the car after the show.

I'm thrilled that it is actually happening!
As much as I prefer the first season look, it should probably be taken to the third season finish to keep the screen used steering wheel, pad on the canopy and roll bar placement. They are what they are.

To try and re create parts like the steering wheel etc when you have the actual wheel used in the third season is not restoration it's "re-creation" without the parts used for reference. That's just guess work.
Some things you just have to live with. ;)

Now where the Hell did he find the missing roll top dash doors???? Finding "THE" doors and the photo of the box of add ons has made this guy my hero!!!!

The, ahem, caretakers...of the missing dash doors gladly donated them to the cause. And no, I wasn't one of them!

Maybe someday the original steering wheel and beacon cage will turn up. Who knows?

Strange comparative, but these missing pieces seem analogous to the missing Good Vibrations (Beach Boys) tape sessions that would have allowed them to make a complete and true stereo version of the song. :)

Agreed. If there are original screen used parts on it that are still in functional condition, leave them. If other original screen used parts turn up later (steering wheel, beacon) you could put them back on. But taking off something screen used and replacing it with a replica part for purely aesthetic reasons just doesn't seem right.

BTW, I haven't seen the sale publicized anywhere. Anyone know what it sold for? I cannot imagine the seller got anywhere near what he paid for it at auction!
