Today, series finales are a common happening, in 1968, not so much, but it would have been nice to see a final send off for the series. I like the idea of Catwoman reforming.

Hopefully the comic book series will take up this task and deliver the series a proper send off! :-)

While I don't think It needed an "ending" I think the series could have used a better send off.

I would have thrown the Minerva episode behind the Dr. Casandra episode, and instead of having the cheap invisible fight I would have had a special 3 part story where Batman, Robin and Batgirl need to track down the villains who Dr. Casandra let out. A Big high stakes story where we do tie up some loose ends but we don't end Batman's Crusade . The obvious one is Batman, Robin, and Batgirl revealing identities to each other. Some kind of resolution between Batman and Catwoman would be nice, you would need Julie Newmar for that. A climatic battle between Batman and The Joker? Batman and The Riddler? Maybe The Siren is in the mix? Or The Sea Hag perhaps? ;)

I don't know for sure how it should go down, just a better send off then the Minerva Episode.

Supposedly, they did know, which is why Dozier and Horwitz did cameos.

I've said the series did not need a formal finale, but if the producers knew it was on the chopping block early on, the show would have been served by a season three restructuring. That starts with not dragging on "star" names to play ultimately worthless villains (saving money there) and planning for something along the lines of the film, where a real, bigger than life plot (and production approach) is launched by the Big Four--or some "B" team gathering in a 90-minute special.

A movie-like send off would play like a finale, with a big, earth-shaking victory, but ends with Gordon and O'Hara realizing such threats means they will always need the Dynamic Duo.

My impression was they learned about the cancellation with enough time to slide in as cameos but not enough to actually come up with a better episode. Who knows? Maybe savvy members of the production sensed the impending axe but did nothing. Maybe it surprised all of them.

A movie-like send off would've been good. I think anything would've been better than Minerva; though the concept of a villainous spa could've worked, especially in the first season.

Oh well.

The Sea Hag would have been excellent as a Scuba Diving Villainess in a Two Part Batman Series finale.Or perhaps instead of naming the villainous Spa owner Minerva, the writers could have named her The Spa Lady. Her costume could have been a one or two piece bikini with blonde hair and blue eyes. She would have been wily, sexy, and EVIL.By the way, also a Batman Two Part Series finale.

I agree. I think they probably knew the end was nearing, but it came sooner than they thought.

Dr. Cassandra's episode seemed like a finale since it brought the villains (but not their actors) back one last time. The Zsa Zsa/Minerva episode was probably thrown in at the last minute since it was learned this would be the final season and she wanted to be on. You don't ignore Zsa Zsa Gabor. :) Not that I'm attacking her. Dr. Cassandra's episode was also the only one to put "The End" at the end of an episode.

I just placed the movie itself at the end of the series. It is an ideal culmination for the show, with all four of the major villains. Batman and Robin catch them all in the end, and sneak off. The only thing missing, for the sake of continuity, is Batgirl.

Thoughts?

I would change the movie to include Batgirl if possible.

Wow. That's a new thought, and I very much agree! Granted, FOX never would have green lit a Batman film with the series ratings crashing and burning like they were. But filmed MUCH more cheaply as a 3rd season 4-parter, it would have elevated the show, and ended it on a classy note. Barbara Gordon could have been the girl in a bikini waving from a rooftop at the bat-copter! Or dressed as a "meter maid" -- which I think Yvonne once mentioned (comically) as a possible cameo for her in the 1989 Batman movie. Either would have been appreciate.

BTW, I just found mention that she's played a meter maid on 'My Three Sons'! Guess that's where he idea came from.

Sherry Jackson appeared as a fellow high school student with Don Grady (she was 24 at the time) on My Three Sons. The episode was shown one week before her appearance as Pauline in the Riddler silent movie caper.
