Yeah, something like that would be a dream come true. Blu-ray will surely be an option and not just DVD.JWLJN wrote:I'd really, really, really prefer that "hoax" Blu-Ray packaging that surfaced...

It's surreal to be talking about an official 60s Batman release. But here we are. I'll be opting for the Blu-ray version. Surely they will include that format.

Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!
I' sorry for the confusion my original post caused. I know the Man from U.N.C.L.E. is available now, because I bought it when it was released and have a copy. I just remember that I had ordered the first season previously on Amazon and the order was cancelled because that release was pulled. That first announcement that was never released was what I was referring to.
Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!
That was a case where another company had announced plans to release S1 thinking they owned the rights but they didn't and Warner stepped in to put a stop to that. That then put the onus on Warner to release the series themselves at a time when they were frankly not releasing anything from their TV catalog at the time.

I just hope they don't release it on DVD only and then after squeezing every last $ out of them then release it on Blu-Ray like so many other TV series

I don't see that happening. As far as major studio releases go by the end of this year the only way to get a new release on DVD will be to buy it on BluRay/DVD Combo pack. I believe there is a good chance by the time this series is released the only way to get it will be on DVD will be in a BluRay/DVD combo pack. DVD is a dying format and just will not do this series justice especially considering each episode will at least receive a brand new transfer for this release in HD. As far the transfer goes lets hope each episode is remastered in 8K and cleaned up as well. The Joker wrote:I just hope they don't release it on DVD only and then after squeezing every last $ out of them then release it on Blu-Ray like so many other TV series

I think they've already done all the transfers months ago. I doubt they made the annoucement and THEN decided to do the work IMO.
Music. BAT! Music.
Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!
I would be willing to bet we only get DVDs, and thats fine by me. I have a 31 Inch Fullscreen Tube TV that I watch all my old TV shows on and the picture is still great! Of course I do have a HDTV and BluRay Player, but to me it makes no sense to watch Fullscreen TV shows on a Widescreen TV. I hate the black bars on the left and right(distracking to me)...
Anywho, the only way I would watch Batman on Blu-Ray is if they were Full Widescreen that filled the screen. I personally think the day is coming that we will get Pan and Scan Widescreen versions of all the old Fullscreen TV shows on bluray. CMT just did that to the Dukes of Hazzard and I enjoying watching it on my HDTV like that.

Lord I hope not!I personally think the day is coming that we will get Pan and Scan Widescreen versions of all the old Fullscreen TV shows on bluray.
The whole point of widescreen was to show us films the way they were shot, rather than letting some technician somewhere pick and choose what information was cropped out of the frame, with no regard for what the cinematographer and director originally intended. If they end up doing a pan-and-scan of 4:3 shows just to make create a faux "widescreen" effect, we've swung the pendulum all the way in the other direction.
I'd rather see a "square box" in the middle of my screen than constantly wonder what parts of the image I got cheated out of.
"You were right again, Batman. We might have been killed."
"Or worse."
"Or worse."
Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!
As long as tvshows are released on disks, I think not. They tried that with the first season of Kung Fu and it was a massive failure. I think they understand that collectors don't want that. However, the trend seems to be that shows that are licensed to streaming services are going to be in that format.chelray1 wrote:Anywho, the only way I would watch Batman on Blu-Ray is if they were Full Widescreen that filled the screen. Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!
There's no reason to do full widescreen for ANY vintage TV show, not even in Blu-Ray.
Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!
I have no doubt they will be blu ray released.
