Saffle. Randy Saffle. You know the name. Head of Q Section here on the board.
Randy just re-created for me this awesome Tiki statue as seen in the 10th episode of season one of “Gilligan’s Island” - “Waiting for Watubi.” The prop department made a resin copy of a Kona Tiki statue, originally carved by renowned Filipino artist Milan Guanko.
Randy kindly designed, fabricated and hand painted this awesome replica at my request. It will be a centerpiece for our Gilligan's Island-themed Halloween party this year.
Thank you, again, Randy! Fantastic work!

That was fun! My digital sculpting skills are improving with every attempt but it's still new enough to me that I dont know if I can pull something off. Makes stuff like this fun. I appreciate your kind words and support that I always get from all of the members of this board. It motivates me to do the next project.

Man, that is a fine reproduction. Of all of the possible prop replicas one could make from Gilligan's Island, the statue would not be the first one I'd consider. But its great you reproduced it. Any plans to make the castaway voodoo dolls, or perhaps a miniature of the test space capsule?

Not sure if that is directed to me or BiffPow.BATWINGED HORNET wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 3:31 pm Any plans to make the castaway voodoo dolls, or perhaps a miniature of the test space capsule?
I grew up watching G.I. but I'm not near a fan of it as I am Batman. I'm not even versed in the objects you are asking about. Anything is possible though if you want something specific send me a PM and I'll look into it.
I'm sure BiffPow will have his own thoughts.

yeah I'm ashamed to admit I'm probably more a fan of Gilligan's Island and Lost in Space than I am of Batman, which don't get me wrong, I love the show, but in terms of re-watching I'll pick one of those two first.

Don't be ashamed. It's fun to have many different interests and for it to fluctuate to which one gets your attention. Makes the world more fun!

That is an AWESOME FIND, Randy!

Batwinged Hornet, Randy created it at my request.BATWINGED HORNET wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 3:31 pm Of all of the possible prop replicas one could make from Gilligan's Island, the statue would not be the first one I'd consider.
I’m a fan of the mid-century - and tiki - vibe, and I have a special affinity for the Philippines (my wife is a beautiful, intelligent, kind, hard-working and creative Filipina, among other positive descriptors), and the sculptor of the original was a Filipino American.
I already had the Packard Bell AR-851 transistor radio (which would be the one prop most people think of) and I completed a makeshift “Gilligan’s Island” inspired hut in our living room, as a photo backdrop. (BTW, the bamboo poles on either side of the door are made of cardboard tubes, hot glue and paint, and the two support poles on the other sides are made of cheap PVC pipe which I modified, because I could not find large bamboo poles.)
Also have a few of the vintage Trader Vic’s coconut mugs (see photo), as used on the show and made a couple of other props, as previously mentioned, too.
I purchased an inexpensive standee “ship’s wheel/rudder control” (which I modified by painting over the rather cartoonish image) and added my own “S.S. Minnow/ Island Charter / Exotic Trip - Free Lunches” sign (as seen at the beginning of the credits) in the center of the wheel. (Originally planned to buy a wooden wheel, but just would have no place to go with it afterwards, so I went with the cheap party-store standee.)
Have just been in awe of the many creative talents here on the board, and Randy’s work is exacting and impressive. I really wanted something “Gilligan’s Island” he made, knowing that it would be both unique and a fine prop to pass down to my son, who is also a fan of the show.

These are the voodoo dolls Batwinged Hornet is referencing, Randy. Not a bad idea.

I will also display my TV Guide with the Gilligan’s Island cover featuring Bob Denver and Tina Louise.
Wanted to find one without an address label, until I saw the name of the recipient after I bought it:
“G R Grant”!
I’m guessing that’s as close to having the name of a character (Ginger Grant) on the cover of a Gilligan’s Island TV Guide as I could ever hope to find.
Trivia: If you look at the extreme left of the cover, just above Denver’s shoulder at the cover spine, you’ll notice a little dark spot. Dawn Wells was also in the original photo shoot and the cover was supposed to feature all three (hence why Bob Denver’s arms are squished inward). Sadly, she was cropped out of the final cover, unbeknownst to the subjects. The dark spot appears to be a tiny trace of her brunette hair.

Re: “Gilligan’s Island” radio restoration/prop
Yes, it was harsh, especially since she also does not appear on the only other “Gilligan's Island” TV Guide cover (see below), although I don’t know why.
According to the behind the scenes movie produced by Dawn Wells, she was heartbroken and Denver was angry. No mention of Tina Louise’s reaction.
No wrong team, there, Andy. I’d pick …
BOTH? (If I could).
The actresses were perfect for their roles, both beautiful, both with their own appeal.
