The more things change the more they stay the same. When I was but a wee-lad I had a good friend who lived a bit away from me, but I would make the trek to his house where his Dad would feed me Watermelon (an exotic fruit in our house then) and I'd get to explore his great attic bedroom where he'd inevitably have some toy I didn't notice but would soon have to hunt one down for myself.

A neighbor a couple blocks up has a cool garage man cave and when I stop by his wife feeds me whatever truly exotic, usually Indian dish she's crafting, and he always has something to show me. He bought the McFarlane Cowl so I got to see it in person, and it's quite nice, but he also picked up the McFarlane Batman Superfriends figure which was an easy pass for me when I saw it listed but in person I really liked it. The blue was vibrant and it looked much more Alex Toth like than the DC one from years ago-- so I quickly ordered the last one on Amazon right there on my phone.

In the old days we would have climbed out on my childhood friends roof and staged some elaborate adventure with his full size GI Joes. As two soon to be old men the current me was happy to sit in a comfortable chair in the garage and spend time with friends.

The Super Friends (retro wave 12) is available in-store at Target. Good to see the McFarlane retro line back in-store. I found them in the collectibles section in electronics, not in the toy department. Not available at target.com.

My favorites in the Super Friends retro wave 12 are Riddler (chase) and Sinestro (non-chase).

According to ToyShiz, it was revealed at WonderCon 2025 that McFarlane plans to continue the Super Friends line in future waves and next up would be Gorilla Grodd, Cheetah, and Toyman.

I’m not really a big fan of Toy Man. Wish we’d get Scarecrow or Captain Cold instead. I hope they don’t only focus on Legion Of Doom because Penguin, Joker, Mxyzptlk and Darkseid also were on later years of SF, and both Supergirl and Poison Ivy appeared in the SF comic book of the 70’s.

My favorites are the goofy-looking villains (like Sinestro), so I hope there's more of those. And back to Retro '66 Batman, hoping McFarlane will someday release street clothes Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson, and also MadHatter. That is my hope, but I have heard no rumors about this.

Catwoman was drawn and was to be used originally but couldn’t be because she was on the Filmation cartoon at the time. Same reason Penguin and Joker weren’t part of the original Legion of Doom.

I like that model sheet! Would make a nice McFarlane figure.

As these pieces of Alex Toth art show, someone was originally envisioning quite a different line up for the Legion of Doom. It was one that was going to include Joker, Penguin, Poison Ivy and others who did not make the final cut.

If you're looking for the red platinum (chase) Super Friends Riddler figure, it's available for pre-order at gamestop.com:

If interested, better hurry, as these things tend to not last long?!

A nice update to McFarlane retro wave 12 is a trading card with each figure.

This is what I was hoping they would do with board member SketchCardsandCovers 1966 artwork.
