Todd McFarlane answered my questions about 1966 Batman today

Post by BatToys »

Todd McFarlane answered my questions during an internet interview:

No to 7" Yvonne Craig Batgirl because the rights are still unresolved and he doesn't think Warner Brothers wants to pursue it. But it could change in the future.

Yes to George Reeves Superman! They are working on the rights.

Yes eventually they will make an Earth 2 JLA #55 Robin.

I asked him I would like to see a 7-in Captain Action Batman and he seemed to consider it but didn't say yes or no.

Todd was not sure if the upcoming lights and sound 1966 Batmobile was for 7" or 6" and he said he should know because his name is on the box. He's guessing it's for 7".

I asked about 7-in figures for Caped Crusader Batman animated and he said some things he can't discuss but that something I mentioned is in the works.

I complimented the sculpt work and thanked him for his time.

Great update. Did anyone ask about a 1966 Batgirl playset or other additional 1966 playsets or characters?

I'm assuming he's making a 7-in Burt Ward Robin.

After he answered my questions I logged off but everything was recorded. I don't know if anybody asked about other playsets.

The likeness rights licensing expired a few years ago since they were originally set for about five years to be renewed if everything seemed good. WB hasn't bothered offering or negotiating any kind of renewal deal nor seem to be interested in doing so when approached by Yvonne's family/estate. But this (VERY reliable) information has been repeated here over and over again. I don't see the future changing on that since WB doesn't seem interested enough.

No I didn't ask him about that and no one else asked him in the internet interview.

If this picture is not Photoshop, it's a bit of a mixed message.
If Warner Brothers doesn't want to get the Yvonne Craig likeness rights then why do they use her image to promote the 1966 Batgirl toy?

By the way Todd has no involvement in acquiring likeness rights of actors. That job is up to Warner Brothers attorneys. Once Warner Bros obtains the rights then they license it to McFarlane Toys and other companies.

What I am taking from this image is that the Batgirl figure can sit on the bike.

What I take away from this is those Batgirl standees are still fairly cheap out in party stores and whoever setup the display for Todd figured Batgirl was a good idea for the display-- which looks pretty empty when Todd isn't there.
