As I don't recall, what sort of engine work did the owner have done? If the list is too long to get into, I understand.

Unfortunately, the owner did not want us to rebuild the engine--and it needs it. If he's worried that the engine might not pass muster on a rebuild, my suggestions would be to carefully remove and store the original engine and buy a crate engine to be able to drive the car. When he sells the car, he can put the original back in.
