Excellent points good sir. I never quite looked at some of these things that way.clavierankh wrote:I rise to defend the lady.
Batman probably not deputized right away. Can you imagine I guy walking into police headquarters saying "Excuse me, I'd like to be a duly deputized agent of the law!" He had to earn some cred first.
Second when Batgirl says things like "A woman's intuition." She's covering how she really found out what she knew. Plus is woman's intuition different than Batman playing a hunch?
Also when she said the line about Oiija Boards and Tea Leaves it was her way of saying "Mind your own d**n business?"
You know, no one question how Batman knew within seconds Archer had robbed Wayne manner why should Batgirl's sources be questioned?

Batman was originally depicted as a vigil ante in the comics, and ofcourse certainly not deputized(not in the beginning anyway). This particular series didn't have much to offer in the way of continuity or backstory. We knew Batman must have had a history with Commissioner Gorden explaining why the commissioner had put all his faith in Batman...we just never knew what that was, this is the nature of this series. Putting Batgirl in the same caliber as Batman didn't bother me that much. Oiija boards and tea leaves was how Batgirl answered her inquisitiveness, but Batman did not believe her " what will she think of next".... This makes Batman fairly intelligent(Even for season 3 standards).clavierankh wrote:I rise to defend the lady.

The real crime(or down fall) was the producers confusion between Vigil ante/ Superhero and Gotham"s perception of Batman that wavered from show to show. Not to mention the treatment of women. TPTB tried way too hard to make Batgirl as smart(if not smarter) than Batman in places they didn't need to do it.

Not only do I love the responses, but I love how several posts go somewhat off-tangent as well.
Spectacular points!
Dr. Cassandra annoyed me. She reminds me of, and actually kind of resembles someone I know who annoys me.
The generic "Bookworm" music that was played for many other villains was annoying to me too. It suited bookworm, but then they used it for Black Widow & Lord Ffogg.
I echo another poster's thoughts of the season 3 annoyance when they introduced a new villain. The only time I liked it was when Louie the Lilac arrived, and Bruce said he had to go, and King Tut freaked out and said "Of course he has to go! He is Batman!"
While I suppose it was necessary for Barbara to have somebody to talk with, it nevertheless was annoying when she would talk to her dopey bird Charlie. Moreso when she would say "Now don't tell anybody about this!" I don't think Charlie was a parrot!

Maybe she was upset because she got stuck wearing a hand-me-down of a hand-me-down--from two molls, no less.BatmanFan102 wrote:Dr. Cassandra annoyed me. She reminds me of, and actually kind of resembles someone I know who annoys me.

Re: Things/People who annoyed you
Just thought of another one as I am in the throws of insomnia...
When the narrator tells us that we're at Wayne Manor, he ALWAYS says "Home of millionaire Bruce Wayne and his youthful ward, Dick Grayson"!
We know that!!!
And I get annoyed too that Robin can't simply be called "Robin" by most of the others. Batman and Alfred call him Robin or "Master Robin" in Alfred's case, which is fine. But for everyone else it's "Robin...the Boy Wonder..." Drives me batty (pun intended).

That's just part of the joke of the series. Even during speech he is referred to as "millionaire Bruce Wayne". It's the same as everything having big labels to tell us what they are. ("Run Down Factory", "Rare Old Incan Books" etc).BatmanFan102 wrote:When the narrator tells us that we're at Wayne Manor, he ALWAYS says "Home of millionaire Bruce Wayne and his youthful ward, Dick Grayson"!

There's Commissioner Gordon's alliterative references to every villain that can get to be a bit much
Re: Things/People who annoyed you
One thing which always annoyed me was during the bat fights when the duo would just charge at the villains - who just stood there - and knock them over. They used it in the very first battle with the Molehill Mob, then resurrected it in the third season quite a bit - usually while using something as a battering ram.

You mean like "That pompous waddling master of foul play, maestro of the criminal umbrellas"?Dr. Shimel wrote:There's Commissioner Gordon's alliterative references to every villain that can get to be a bit much

There was Sandman, "that cunning Continental criminal."
Re: Things/People who annoyed you
Well at least the Commissioner is alliterative with more than one person, unlike Dr. Smith and the Robot!

I don't know that I'd call it an annoyance, as I find it kinda funny.
But has it ever been established why the Penguin quacks like a duck?

Re: Things/People who annoyed you
I see it more of the villains charging Batman and Robin, and them meeting the challenge. I've always liked how Riddler, Joker, Penguin, et. al. would shout, "Follow ME, men!" and push the nearest henchman in front of himself, standing back to watch the fight (THAT maneuver rarely worked).Tom1980 wrote:One thing which always annoyed me was during the bat fights when the duo would just charge at the villains - who just stood there - and knock them over. Due to Burgess Meredith not being a smoker, yet being forced to constantly puff his tipped cigarette. The quacking was done to cover what would be coughing, which would have ruined countless takes.Commodore Schmidlapp wrote:I don't know that I'd call it an annoyance, as I find it kinda funny.
