The necklace and belt are reason enough to buy the Catwoman costume. Looks pretty darn nice!
The rest of the costume can be upgraded with better claws and mask and you're good to go for a great looking Halloween costume.

Same for the Batgirl costume. No question who it is and the base suit is nice enough to build on for the fan that just wants a costume to have fun in.

The Batman costume is a waste frankly. The only thing worth having is the belt and it's not worth the price tag knowing Mattel is making a better one for less than the cost of the "costume". Pass.

Pretty much same for the Robin costume. The fabric choices were awful. Even the belt is lackluster. Pass.

Well, at least we'll see some nice looking Catwomen and Batgirls out and about this year!!! :D 8-)

Yes, the Batgirl suit looks good in the photos in this thread - my Batgirl hasn't had the chance yet to try on hers and the only thing I'm concerned about is the cowl - it sounds like it might be rather small and fragile.

Please post your Halloween pix everyone. I'm really on the fence about buying the Batman costume just for the cowl and belt but would love to see how well everyones costumes looks. The advertisements are not always accurate. Thanks

Having never purchased a costume in 44 years, this is my first. Here is my experience with it:

I ended up with a second X large after the first one's chest emblem was too far off center (literally stitched in front of the right shoulder) and almost vertical instead of horizontal. The new one is much better, although still not quite centered. It will do.

The grey suit is a good fit, but thank goodness for the trunks. I'm a 32" inseam and when standing tall, the unitard pulls a bit and presses a little too much at the groin. The trunks hide the otherwise "inappropriate" result. I think all guys know the problem of an ill fitting unitard. Again, the trunks solved this problem completely.

After comparing the two x-large suites, all the pieces are the same size except for the belt. The first one fits fine, but the second was HUGE and is about 5 inches longer. It literally has one extra "pouch" than what I assume is the standard size belt. It would require cutting the belt and repositioning the velcro for anyone under about a 42" waist. I'm a 34/36 and the standard fits with enough room on the velcro to make it tighter or looser by a few more inches, I'd guess it could fit up about 40/42 inch waist.

My recommendation if you are on the fence - I think anyone with an interest in making some minor modifications could make it a decent costume. Straight out of the bag, it is a clumsy fit and cheesey looking, but I suspect this is true of most "one size fits all" mass produced costumes.

By combining the best of the pieces from the two sets, all I've done is swapped the grey suit with misapplied chest emblem for the one closer to center. Except for the larger sized belt everything else was the same size.

My tip for the trunks that works best on me is to pull them up a little high, and fold the waist band down an inch or so and repeat as needed. The belt hides this.

Just a little pic of a quick improvement I made to the Batgirl belt. Those big blank blocks of foam were bothering me, so I added flaps and snaps to 'em. MUCH better!

The flaps are the same thing the blocks are made of - craft foam, but thinner, obviously. Glued on with contact cement. The snaps are the tops from metal cover-it-yourself buttons spray painted a nice matching yellow, then glued right to the flap. Took me less than an hour.

I finally got a chance to unpack the Catwoman costume. As has been observed earlier in this thread, the belt and necklace are above average, and the unitard is okay, too, so, overall it is pretty successful. I'll have to drill new holes in the medallion and add wire to mount the chain properly. Thankfully, the mask is mounted on craft foam, not thin urethane foam, like the Batgirl mask material. The ears are a bit odd, but acceptable. The gloves are a joke - I will use some other cheap costume gloves and glue better fingernails on them. I haven't had a chance to put it on a mannequin yet to get a good impression of the whole thing put together, but, so far, I'd say it's the best of the bunch.

There is a strange splice on the belt I got. Is everyone's this way? It's really too bad - it interrupts the way the fish scales are sewn to the belt, so the fish scale at that join is merely hot glued on top. Very cheesy.

Also, I thought the lion head buckle was a strange choice, really from out of left field, until I saw THIS picture of a vintage fish scale belt today - I'd never seen one like it before! But now I know why Rubies used the lion, instead of the screen accurate flower buckle! Who knows, maybe the flower buckle is trademarked or something.

And here's a closer look at the Catwoman necklace's medallion. A surprisingly accurate sculpt, all things considered. Am I the only one with funky holes drilled in one side for no reason? Or are they all inexplicably cast that way? Random and weird!

Also strange that they eliminated mounting it the right way, with two chains on each side, when the lower "beads" on the necklace clearly have holes in them to accommodate it (and the prototype is pictured the right way). I will never understand Rubies!

Batfanman wrote:You could probably have a local tailor move the emblem for less than $20 - I sent mine out to have it moved and to also have a bat-fly installed. Not sure what to say about the cowl, you are going to be moving around all the time so any fix may come undone.
I found a good solution for the cowl "flare" out of fabric on the sides of the cowl around the neck- a second piece of double sided velcro on the front. I then carefully folded the side "flares" down and strategically placed another button sized velcro to fold them in place (one on each side). They're set in place now so I just open and close the original front velcro flaps to take the cowl on and off. The cape helps hide the rest.

Granted, it moves some, but is easy to "fix" when it's picture time and stays in place if I'm not moving around excessively.

Since these costumes just came out in 2013 I am hoping by next year the prices will come down under $100.

**********

This site still has them and the XL size is especially reduced in price:

I'm wondering if next year there will be an updated and improved version. Perhaps by another designer.

And, just out of curiosity, did anyone out here pick up an XL of the Batman suit and if so, do you know the cowl is larger than the smaller sized costume version?
