Bat Boot color

Post by Batfanman »

Hey all - new to the board and in process of assembling items for Bat-suit. A question regarding the boot color - I have a pair of polyurethane boots that I re-colored using Kiwi Meltonian Nu-Life color spray Navy and the color is a dark blue but not a real match to my CW cape/cowl.

I've done 3 coats - how close should the color match the cape or cowl when compared against the real Bat boots? I've looked at AW photos and they do seem to differ but lighting can affect perception so just looking for anyone's input that has done what I'm doing. Thanks!

The original boot color is a hair brighter than the cape and cowl.

99% of the Batmen you see have boot colors similar to the darker Nu-Life Navy Blue color.
It works with the suit but is not the original color.

Attached is a photo of the screen used boot with my color swatches.
Please do not repost my photo.

Hope this helps!!!

Chuck...

When I did my boots I lightly misted them with black to tone down the brightness of the blue

Brightness isn't my issue - mine are dark blue but not really a true Navy blue. These scaps are all excerpted from the same photo so you can see the color differences between the boots, Chuck Williams cape and the Grand Heritage Batsuit blue.

Trust me, there is no one "Navy Blue" !!!!!!

EVERYONE sees the color differently.

I've seen the color almost black and some that I would call royal blue and some that lean towards teal, but they all insist it's "navy blue".

If it were easy, everyone would be doing it!!!

Don't disagree with you, Chuck - just wish I could find the right balance here. On a related subject, anybody ever try to dye Polyester?

I hear ya!

You can shift colors a bit with IDYEPOLY dye.
I haven't had good luck with getting a true color with it. more tints and shade versus a bold color.
The stuff stinks too.

The type of dye needed to really dye polyester is nasty, dangerous stuff that is not made for home use...

I need some advice - I was not satisfied with the Kiwi Navy color so I put some Rustoleum Ultra Cover 2x Navy over the Kiwi and the results looked good until I tried them on and the cracking started all over. So I have begun peeling the paint by hand to reveal the original black color of the boots. Any idea if there's a quicker way, ie a solvent or other method to strip this paint off completely?

Thanks - decided to wash them with warm water and that worked. Anyone have any luck with Rustoleum for vinyl spray paint (on faux leather/polyurethane?)
